 FOSTERING A CAT OR KITTEN

KITTENS:

We take in many kittens of different ages and from a large variety of different situations. Whether they were unwanted pets, accidental litters, strays or feral kittens.

  • Newborn - 5 weeks: Hand rearing young kittens is a time consuming activity that requires feeds up to every 2 hours, including all through the night. For young kittens we would want experienced hand rearers only.

  • 5 weeks - 9 weeks: We would require that you have a secure and separate room that is isolated from other pets in the household. You will need transport to regularly collect food and litter. You must live locally (merseyside and wirral).

  • Litters of kittens: We will never split a litter of domestic kittens so we often require homes that are able to take more than one kitten.

  • Mum and kittens: We require that there are no other pets in the house hold as they need a quiet and safe environment. We would prefer fosterers with more experience for mum and kittens.

  • Feral kittens: We often take in kittens that have been born outside who have had little to no socialisation. These kittens will typically be under 8 weeks old and will require someone who has the time to socialise these kittens to build there confidence. You will need a quiet separate room away from other pets and children.

Kitten fostering can be demanding, but it is also a very rewarding task leading to well developed and socialised kittens. If you are interested in volunteering or wish to ask questions please email: info@rescueme.org.uk

Fostering an adult cat.

Whilst most of our foster requests are for kitten, we do often require fosterers for adult cats. By fostering an adult cat you will be freeing up a space at the rescue which will allow us to save another individual who is in need.

To foster an adult cat you will either need a spare room or a pet free home. We do often require child free homes for our more nervous cats who prefer a quiet environment.
